The Columbia Gem & Mineral Society (CGMS) holds its annual Gem, Mineral & Jewelry Show in Columbia, South Carolina.

Vendors sell mineral specimens, rough and cut gemstones, beads, fossils, unique jewelry, and lapidary supplies (including amber, jade, turquoise, and precious gemstones). Some jewelers can complete special orders.

CGMS sells geodes at the entrance and cuts them on site (possible contents include quartz, amethyst, smoky quartz, or calcite). There is a salted mine for children to dig for crystals, fossils, rocks, and minerals, plus grab bags ($2, $5, $10) with field-trip and show finds.

Demonstrations include gemstone faceting, jewelry making, and flint knapping. Educational display cases feature member collections, the South Carolina state gemstone (amethyst), and the state stone (blue granite).
